cleopatra is not a good movie and elizabeth taylor is not an actress that interests me much usually -- the weather has been glum today but i have certainly not... so why the sudden lump in throat at the final line and start of tears at the sight of the queen of egypt laid out dead in her glory ("was this well done of your lady?" asked the roman; "exceeding well done," replied the servant)?

Cleopatra IS a good movie! Well ok it's a bit long, they should have left out all the dull bits with eg Octavion and kept all the ZING BOOM TARANTARA bits (and back & forth backchat with Dick Burton).

i think that its one of the movies that i think is amazing, does me in by pure force of will, words like good or bad are irrelvant next to hurricane liz (its also why i think the films she did in the 60s are interesting--where else have we seen something so operatic, so almost silent, closer to bernhardt or callas then streep)

I saw a commerical the other night for a version with Cleopatra starring Timothy Dalton (as Caesar or Anthony? I do not know).

This was the same channel that was showing a movie with BRIAN BLESSED !!!
