... and i have been mulling over the geopolitics of mordor, spurred on by the argument on some absurd blog somewhere that while it may be energy-secure it could hardly be food-secure
my counter is that the eastern (unmountained) border has excellent access to khand, rhûn and the vinyards of dorwinion, but exactly what mordor offers these regions in trade-exchange is unclear, economically speaking
(there are the slave-tilled so-called fertile regions of nurn and the shores of the sea of nurnen, true -- but slaves are a drain on security forces in times of war, and themeselves need feeding to be much use)
