i: Where is French cricket played?
ii: What did Jake find good company at the Marinas?
iii: What, confusingly, depicts the premises of a neighbour?

v: What was the cherished bottle that wine-buff Miles drank in solitude?
vi: What was considered to have “a good and most particular taste” at the Royall Oak Tavern?
vii: For whom did Kandinsky succeed Chagall, who had succeeded Mir?
viii: What did Vesper and James share on the train to Montenegro?
ix: What did Pettigrew-Robinson try out on his Lordship?
x: What was presented to Bertrand by Berald?

James and Vesper is presumably James Bond and Vesper Lind, from Casino Royale (the book).

Yes, I thought that too - so presumably either a martini or sex?

(Oh, never mind, I'm sure the theme is wine.)

OMG I know one properly! vii) is Chateau Mouton Rothschild labels, which have a different artist do the picture every vintage. Kandinsky did 1971, Chagall 1970, Miro 1969.

p sure pettigrew robinson is a character in a sayers/wimsey book (naturally his lordship is a weenophile)

(and on a quick scan i can't find any trains in casino royale or mention of montenegro, so maybe i'm barking up the wrong tree)

Yep the Wimsey book is Clouds of Witness - there is lots of chat about wine and port (from 1847!) but I can't see anything connected with Mr P-R.

I wonder if all the answers are Chateau something. It feels to me French cricket would be played in the grounds of one or by a team named after one.

Ooo maybe it's Giscours - their Wiki page says their grounds host the Bordeaux Giscours cricket team.

x. is Chateau Pape Clement, given to BERTRAND DE GOTH (i.e. Pope Clement V who was enclaving in Avignon etc) by his brother Berald in 1300!

I might have to put that on the werk website, we only have boring stuff like "Creamy, deliciously fruity wines with a classy oak structure" on there at the moment.

vi. I think this is Samuel Pepys on Ch. Haut Brion: "I drank a sort of French wine called Ho Bryen that hath a good and most particular taste I never met with".

ii. is from Hemingway's 'The Sun Also Rises' - our dude Jake is drinking Ch. Margaux in the Pyrenees.

(Sorry for hogging all these wine qs!)

To summarise:

i: (possibly) Ch. Giscours
ii: Ch. Margaux
iii: racked my brains, my boss's brains & Google Image Search for this one to no avail
iv: Ch. Clerc-Milon (the clowns were only on the label between 1983 and 2010)
v: this is a 1961 Ch. Cheval Blanc, according to the wikipedia entry for Sideways (which I have not seen)
vi: Ch. Haut-Brion
vii: Ch. Mouton Rothschild
viii: Ch. Angelus
ix: this is actually Unnatural Death, not Clouds of Witness, and the disgusting drink in question is an 1876 Ch. Lafite-Rothschild.
x: Ch. Pape Clement
