18. During 2013:

i: why might Ivanovic now be doubly shy?
ii: how has Love-in-a-mist been roughly handled?
iii: where was the triumphant Gala boy brought down to earth?
iv: where did an urban thief take a grip and enjoy a jubilee meal?
v: for whom did "pills or a powder or something in a bottle" prove inadequate?
vi: how did 11th-placed 66 bring a new meaning to Riding for the Disabled?
vii: who, having once targeted an abbey, has now settled for the Lodge?
viii: whose sad departure has reminded us of a big cat's dentition?
ix: why were Opinion Poll and Restraint of Trade excluded?
x: who opened the Bash Street School Library?

This year's stuff, as always closes the show.

i: foopballer Branislav Ivanovic was bitten by Luis Suarez at Anfield
ii: Love-in-a-mist's scientific name is Nigella, Ms Lawson of that prenom being grabbed by the throat in public by her horrible husband Charles Saatchi -- known by [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee
x: Charles and Camilla visited the Beano offices in Dundee, in June, looked up by [livejournal.com profile] flapwing

Basically guessing at this point, but surely i is a reference to the expression "once bitten, twice shy"? Does anyone remember Ana Ivanovic getting bit last year?

v suggests the quoted line might be song lyrics from someone who died this year.

viii: I feel that some journalist trying to capture the Gravity of the Occasion will have likened the late Nelson Mandela's incarceration to a caged lion

ix, from the phrasing, sounds like horse racing. Why so many horse-racing questions this year, KWQ?

Aha, it's not Ana but some football dude called Branislav, who was bitten by Luis Suarez:

Suarez was handed a 10-game ban for biting Ivanovic's arm during a 2-2 draw between the two sides at Anfield, with the striker later apologising to Ivanovic in a phonecall.

Ouch!

ix. is indeed horse-racing... ON STEROIDS!

Sheik Mohammed's racehorses were full of anabolic badness. Apparently the trainer 'didn't know' that injecting horses with steroids 'was wrong'. HMMM.
