During 2011:

i: who looked a million dollars?
ii: which white mouse has left the Star and Garter?
iii: where did Kid Cassidy get over a very nasty shock?
iv: which obdurate crustacean has very sadly had to call "Over"?
v: which sometime successor to Isaac Barrow found his position untenable?
vi: where was it admitted that with the benefit of historical hindsight we can all see things which we would wish had been done differently, or not at all?
vii: why will Col Reynolds and Lord Meldrum never be the same?
viii: whose killing thrust heralded a monumental redundancy?
ix: who crawled charitably through Bablock Hythe?
DAVID "NOT FUNNY" WALLIAMS (kw)
x: which head was axed at the Tower?

i. for some reason brings to mind the Royal Wedding - I have a vague memory of one of the guests wearing something (jewellery?) worth a million.

Or maybe it's one of Lady Gaga's outfits - constructed from Dollar bills?

Ah - the St Pauls cathedral occupy-assisting dude? A google for Isaac Barrow reveals he was an bishop but MORE IMPORTANTLY the founder of King Wiki-illiam's College!

...which incidentally is related to the prevalence of Buchan-related questions.

A successor to Isaac Barrow might be Lucasian Professor of Mathematics, Gresham Professor of Geometry, Dean of Trinity, or Regius Professor of Greek. But I don't know if he was ever Dean or Canon Chancellor of St Paul's (both of whom resigned last year).

...actually, those are all things that the nephew of the Wiki-illiam dude did.

The elder Barrow was Bishop of St Asaph, and before that of Sodor and Man (see earlier question); also Governor of the Isle of Man, and Rector of Downham.

It turns out that Graeme Knowles, who resigned as Dean of St Pauls, was previously Bishop of Sodor and Man.

iii. Kid Cassidy sounded like a racehorse to me so I googled 'kid cassidy horse' - apparently he was one of the lucky ones to survive the electrocuted paddock thing at Newbury.

I haf found ii. by Google.

Tis Nancy Wake, the resistance/SOE agent. She'd kind of been forgoten about but there was a lot of coverage of her when she died last summer. Her autobio was called The White Mouse (may have been her code name too?) and per Wiki in 2003 Wake chose to move to the Royal Star and Garter Home for Disabled Ex-Service Men and Women in Richmond upon Thames, where she remained until her death.

(Yes I am plugging on even though the answers are up wot of it)

viii. appears to refer to a bullring in Barcelona, nicknamed 'La Monumental'

Wiki sez: "It is the last place in Catalonia where bullfights are being held since the Parliament of Catalonia passed a ban of bullfighting events on July 28, 2010 to come into force in 2012" Connection to 2011 is probably that the last bullfight took place there then, so answer is whoever was the matador involved.

"As dusk fell in the Catalan capital, sequin-clad local matador Serafín Marín dispatched the last of six bulls on the sand of the packed La Monumental bullring" sez the Grauniad.

ooh! ii. I am sure is that British lady spy from WWII who recently died, who was nicknamed The White Mouse. She had quite a few obituary write-ups and sounded amazing. I don't know if the Star and Garter is a pub she lived above or what...

iv could well be Peter Roebuck, cricket commentator who suicided in November. But an obdurate crustacean is a barnacle. So actually this is TREVOR "BARNACLE" BAILEY who died in a fire in February.
