This one was Polish/Lithuanian. But against the Russians.

I think the patriot in question was Stanisław Brzóska:

"Stanisław Brzóska (30 December 1832, Dokudów Pierwszy - 23 May 1865, Sokołów Podlaski) was a Polish priest, general, supreme leader of the Polish insurgency and the last partisan of the January Uprising. ... He was captured eventually in April 1865, sentenced to death by the Russians and hanged publicly" (wikipedia)

January 1863 to April 1865 is 28 months.

Latimer and Ridley were two of the Oxford martyrs, burnt at the stake by Mary in the (late) mid 16th century -- guessing 1570sish? -- so this is someone burned at the stake in the 1430sish <-- so does this fit Joan of Arc? She is very evidently a patriot?

(The teams or "houses" at my primary school were named for protestant martyrs: Latimer, Cranmer, Ridley and Hooper -- they were actually never once discussed or propagandised about, but WTF!!!)

on the nose for joan = burnt as a catholic martyr in 1431!
but the oxford martyrs are 1555-56, which is not 140 years distant

and i think an earlier protestant martyr burnt in england would make more sense: 1415 (year of agincourt)

v is Jan Hus, the Czech (or Bohemian) religious reformer, who was done for heresy at the Council of Constance, after the organisers had promised him he'd be safe. (The main purpose of the Council was to deal with a superfluity of antipopes; burning Bohemian academics was a sideline.)

Sadly, Wikipedia's material on the so-called 'Three Popes Controversy' is dismal, and my favourite history book on the subject pays far more attention to what the Holy Roman Empire was doing at Constance than either the multipopes or Jan Hus.
