haha well my "only an hour" for my accounts turned out to be nonsense as all -- it took me all afternoon because i couldn't find some receipts, and had to tidy two rooms in the search
(i did find them: they were "filed" under a pile of blankets under the piano)
While looking for my passport the other day - it took an hour - I fell head-first into my wardrobe :(
I've basically abandoned any hope of ever being organised: I felt like I was nearly on top of things last week. And then my five-month-old hard drive died. THANKS FOR THAT, APPLE! God, I hate computers (and computer people).
well i have these life-attacking tidies and reorgandises every five or so years -- and keep on top of stuff for [xx] months; basically until something traumatic occurs and i treat myself to a break from discipline
my actual real baked-in habits are
i: never throw ANYTHING way unless it can actually go bad or has become literally illegible -- i still have phonebills older than you, lex ii: commit everything to memory
both of these have distinct drawbacks -- yes my memory is like a steel trap which nothing escapes; unfortunately NOTHING escapes it -- the only thing i have learned to braindump is the total contents of any magazine i've been subbing :: couldn't tell you what was on the most recent cover of crafts, even
and if you never throw anything away, you WILL find it -- but archiving helpfully is an ongoing nightmare
