also perhaps you need a complementary poll asking how many YEARS people have done this, that and t'other.

also also surprised by how [livejournal.com profile] braisedbywolves *isn't* skewing the poll, all yr 30 something mates had early online access!

all i remember is that there was this thing called 'compuserve' and this thing called 'mosaic' and then netscape arrived and that was apparently exciting? also, windows 3.1.1, that was a landmark.
(basically my dad had an awesome research assistant who didn't mind keeping an eye on me after school.)

'First tweet: Just before Glastonbury 2007!'

Early adapter! I remember the mini-buzz around it then, before slebs really got into it.

Twitter is the thing it took me longest to get with...except maybe an RSS reader (i still don't use this enough/properly tho).

Steve's point that older people adapt more slowly may not apply to me - it is 16 years since I first went online, which was my first opportunity to do so. I suspect older people often don't get the opportunity to do so, whereas for young people they'll have had the chance in school, etc.

yeah i think its more that younger people don't actually feel the sense of having to "adapt" at all. the internet generation gap is probably between those who feel like 'going online' (whether just for shopping and paying bills, or creating and maintaining a personality via blog/profile or running a business) was a big shift and those for whom it was the status quo/not something they had to think of as an option.

i do actually fit into the former but many people even 5 years younger than me wouldn't i think.

Wait, didn't Ben The Good once claim that it was my fanzine that invented blogs and the message boards? (I assume that's not the answer you were looking for, however.)
