... i managed to get about half of the first draft of my bsf piece completed by mid-sat, instead of all of it as planned (inc.cutting large ghastly murky sections): i still have all 2moro morning to hit my self-imposed deadline, then off to doctrah becky's to tillysit with v!ck

confession time: i did not get up at 7am ONCE cz every morning i rolled over and reset my alarm -- though i hit 8pm 3 times, which is not bad for beginning to write (=making the coffee i need to actually start typing at 9) (instead of say 11)

i still haven't the slightest idea if it says anything worth reading -- haha well no, there's one bit that i'm pleased with which is not even in the slightest about the ostensible subject

gah it feels EVEN MORE COMPRESSED than usual, plus there's surely stuff i should be thinking and talking about that i'm not yet

maybe it will come to me tomorrow or sunday :(

Well good luck with this. From our brief convo on this you seem to have a solid central point, so I'm sure that getting it down will not be too much of a problem -- maybe the problem, if any, is that your deadline is 'self-imposed'. Always hated those, but that's me.

haha read it and see if i actually ever even get that "solid central point" made -- i can't remember what it was!

"self-imposed" to get a bit of feedback from commentators, inc. the book's editor -- who i'll send something to tomorrow or monday -- in time to actually do something about it (given that i'm crazy busy these next two weeks, and actual final deadline is end of july, if he wasn't lying to me)

it's actually not in as terrible shape as my first draft of the control/strummer piece HOWEVER that had a clear subject (it was a review of three films): this seems much more flaily, i have something to say but i don't know what

the "solid central point" as I vaguely recall was of the order that the battle isn't over, that whatever was thrown up by jazz -- both the music (the act of improv) as well as the cultural space it created -- has maybe been momentarily been beaten down but cannot and will not fully extinguished as things don't just die off, such things run too deeply already. Or at least that's what I got as our conversation went into about 5 diff things. I can only remember that we ended on Warhollolz.

I've read/skimmed most of part one, it is murky (a draft and all) but you're sorta detailing the story and context: nice to learn this stuff in detail. shame I can't spend a lot more time on it today and try to contrast with the original essay (internet is gone for the moment and I'm on a library computer with 15 mins to go) (hopefully I can find today in my pile of paper under the bed and give it another spin)
