the ppl who run the workshop just sent me a lovely thank-you card for my contribution! (i am really unused to ppl sayin thank you for stuff i do, tho once someone came up after something and sed "that piece you wrote abt s0nic y0uth in 198x CHANGED MY LIFE" which worried me a bit...

I think I've probably told you this before, but that reminded me of being at a comic con about 20 years ago, and a guy coming up to me with a portfolio, and asking if I remembered him from last year. I didn't - I probably looked at his work for less than two minutes, one of dozens. He said something like "Well you gave me some advice, and I've been working hard all this year on what you told me." I was terrified, but then he showed me his art from last year, and I remembered that, and when he told me what my advice had been I still thought I was right, and he had got much better, so that was a big relief. It had never occurred to me before then that people took my opinions so seriously.
