bah my macbook will not shut down properly -- it keeps telling me to "quit finder" then logout but i cannot do the first

viz with "force quit" the only option it gives is "relaunch" and anyway it won't do this

verify disk v0mited the above message -- forums suggest i should try and repair/rebuild from a difft disk (which i have one back in london), if no go then back up and reinstall

(or just take to apple to mend)

question: presumably the battery will run down if i just close it up and unplug it (ie for the train journey) w/o shutting down properly (it won't go onto sleep)

force quit on finder will only let you relaunch it, yes.

will it not let you just log out too then?

it just doesn't log me out whatever i do

but i can shut it down by pressing the turn-off button for long time, and (so far) it starts up again -- so i can turn it off for the train journey and not run down the battery, and if it doesn't start uop when i get back to london, take it straight into apple

looks like there is something up with your hard disk - so yes it will take something like Disk Utility repairing while the mac is booted up from a system install DVD

seems to have sorted itself out when i downloaded an osx upgrade!

(will doublecheck with dusk utility when i get back to london)
