despite the continuing lovely weather -- including bonus freaksnowstorm to mark the closing "ice and the subline" ep of slugs -- i am vcross, largely with myself

having reached a decision w.dad's neighbour over what to do shared drains, turned to insurers -- current insurers said "no wayz d00d not our prob, this Root Incursion of which you speak happened long ago, ask previous insurers"

this i did, aware that house was uninsured from may-aug this year bcz (for some reason) we got no renewal reminder -- as they were noting down details, they arsked me to say when Root Incursion happened -- I knew it was before xmas 2007 bcz we had the plumber out then to deal w/a blockage, so i said, insisting it was a guess and they put it down as a guess, "april 2007, when the roots start to grow" (note self-pleased pseudo-botanical detail)

after *much* follow-up faffing (spoke to five diff ppl, on hld three times, phonetime = 1hr 10) it turns out that there was also no house insurance march 2007 – may 2008: a quote was sent out, and a schedule, and a CHEQUE WAS WRITTEN BY ME (witness cheque stubb), but no clue what happened then... not posted, or lost in post, or received but not banked :(

so policy was cancelled in march 2007 but we did not know (i took the fact we had a schedule to mean we had insurance; i didn't check bank statements to see whether cheque went thru) -- and i was vtaken aback and said "so if i'd guessed feb2007, this wouldn't have mattered" <--- not called mark for nothing >:( -- and the woman very tartly said "it seems so"

anyway am ringing plumber who came at xmas to see if he can attest that root incursion happened earlier than march 2007, and will write a clear letter renewing claim with all the details

would not feel so stupid if this did not involve neighbours, who are rawther horrible people (vrich, vunwilling to part w/money) (actually's he's ok-ish but she is awful)
