friday stuff
Sep. 12th, 2008 11:49 ami: oo my adam curtis piece for FQ is available as a dl pdf here (you have to scroll down -- it's called "ghost law") --- anyway the editor sez this issue of FQ is tremendous, so sign up (i haven't seen it yet)
ii: i am listening to a box set of carl nielson's symphonies on vinyl -- he is danish (like the pastry)
iii: need to get my dad's house insurance sorted -- it has not been insured for months by a weird glitch (failed to get "approval" bcz he lives in a "flood area" -- actually the top of quite a high hill -- and they didn't let me know... ): basically i need to find an insurer who does good cover for drains issues, then immediately claim for the drains, which the the kind of artful dodgy manoeuvre i am bad at
iv: nearly finished my taxes -- wow do i need to start earning more and doing less for free :(
v: contemplating a broad response piece to the "what's a critic for" anniversary issue of s&s -- it would pick up on some of the themes of "dalek made of light"
vi: i have nearly finished "politics of friendship" -- and everywhere i look (inc. in one of the curtis docs, tho i didn't have time to explore it), carl schmitt is the name being dropped (curtis in fact elides him, hints at the issues not their source): the sovereign as decider; alternatives to universal sufferage; blah blah... i won't say more on this soon, bcz i doubt it WILL be soon

Date: 2008-09-12 12:31 pm (UTC)essentially i'm trying to find out if they consider damage by tree roots to ancient drains to be accident (generally covered) or wear and tear (not)
the quote we already have is expensive unfortunately, and it's a shared pipe so it require all kinds of delicate negotiations between us and the neighbour (who is an arsehole) (well he isn't so much but his wife is, and he lets her be)
