ok turns out "the atreides" is also* a homeric term for agamemnon and menelaus (viz the "sons of atreus") --- whence mr herbert nabbed it, no doubt

*(ie besides being the family name of many of the key characters in the dune series)

ps i finally looked up "aporia" and found out it actually isn't a synonym for "lacuna", which is how i always had it tagged in my head

I think there's some gubbins in the later, rubbish books (or poss in the 9485348 Brian Herbert prequels, sequels etc which I've not read cos really, why?) abt House Atreides tracing their ancestry back to Agamemnon.
