website design (marna ru readin?)

If you said to a.n.other website designers "what if we want to have pictures that are portrait not landscape?" and they said "that is absolutely impossible with our set-up" what would you be thinking?

ps currently unclear if this is aesthetic or template 4rseyness

(ie are they saying "we could but we never will cz it looks rub" or "we physically can't w/o redesigning the whole system")

either way it seems totally fkn ridiculous and they are surely takin the p!ss

out of interest, why might you want portrait images on the website anyway? is this the craftscouncil site itself? it looks pretty good! on that site i can see why wanting to add portrait pics would be a problem for them but only out of Design Integrity - landscape pics are uniform throughout.

but yes the problem is poor automatic cropping of images originally carefully sized and shaped to show work -- we had an issue almost immediately with someone's piece cut in half by the auto-crop and they rang us (the mag) absolutely furious

i have some sympathy for the site designers here - if every other image is the same size they wouldn't want to change just one to fit whatever needs to be shown although i would've thought they could crop it so it shows enough of what needs to be seen. it does depend on the image and the context tho huh.
