Yes, Stalky lived on the second story, from where he could throw things at unwary instructors in such a way as to make them think that other instructors had done the throwing (iirc).

also = secreted 1 x DEAD CAT under floorboards of neighbouring "house" (which are all connected) --> there's a nice subliminal arts&crafts movement in-joke where beetle has been reading "the story of a house" by Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (January 27, 1814 – September 17, 1879), French architect and theorist,, who he calls "some chick called violet" (well he doesn't say chick but i'd have to look up the exact quote)
