we saw mr maconie twice over the weekend, talking about "middle england" (what his new book is about) with miranda sawyer and divid morrisey and then with jonathan coe and mark millington, it was all very jolly.

With Paul M my feelings are as ambivalent always - as a 13-year-old NME reader in '77 I was bowled over and inspired but at the same time I quietly thought to myself that I could probably do it better. Of course I didn't know his circumstances in '77; having now obtained a copy of and read Nothing, it's clear what was really driving him. Except I don't think he's managed to cut the dummy loose and I go on drearily about this a bit more on my current BiA entry.
