Sat in a little office in the health centre by myself, breathing salbutamol on a nebuliser for the "after" of my before and after spirometry test -- ie with a breathing mask over nose and mouth and clouds of steam whenever i breathe out

Entre a Chinese family, dad, mum, two small boys and baby: they have to pass throiugh this office to get to their appointment: the grown-ups smile politely and nod, the small boys are transfixed by this monstrous vision, and stand and stare, and -- when pulled embarrassedly away by their mum -- come back and stare.

I recall a film I was shown when about the older's age, about the leprosy mission that there was a collection box for in our primary school: a a small African boy gets detached from whoever was looking after him and wanders into a surgery... as a tiny, I found this very traumatic, though I don't recall that he saw much more than gleaming instruments and people with surgical masks and caps (and scalpels).

I have them a big reassuring grin, as if to say "Nothing to worry about here" -- but I think the fact I was just away by myself in this small room was probably as bad as thr mask and the steam. Oh well: my spirometry "after" test was reasonably good, so hurrah.
