no one left to ask
Feb. 23rd, 2010 11:05 amnewspaper sub editor asks us, fact-checking dad's obit, where he was born: "cambridge, i think" is my response, but when i reach for confirmation, i realise the closest i can get is his sister, two years younger than him... when reached, she too says "cambridge, i think"
it's on his birth certificate of course, but that's filed away up-country at the moment
UPDATE: dr b showed me a typed letter last night from one of mum's oldest friends to mum, dated c.1961, when i was 1 or 2 -- "she was an ex of dad's," she said, but then when i wanted to know more, b wasn't sure any more... the letter was funny and fond, all about the writer learning to drive, and asking questions about some local ghost neither of us know anything about
