ppl who have been to my house know it is 1xrabbit warren of STUFF, sorted only in the sense of "sort of sorted"
i. i almost never throw things out*
ii. i gather more stuff all the time -- not in a "collectory" way, all of one type well kept and logged and known, but EXACTLY the opposite
iii. viz i encourage random acquisition, as in "this arrived i have no idea how it relates to anything i have or want i will keep it", and project-related acquisition, viz if i have half (haha or actually NOWHERE NEAR THAT BIG A FRACTION) an idea to write something on "KING KONG: an HISTORY OF IMPERIALISM traced via DINOSAURs IN POPULAR FICTION" (which in fact i DO) then step one towards "finishing" said item is gathering stuff which EVEN SLIGHTLY adjuncts to it
iv. i have spent years and effort trying to organise all this STUFF in ways that all surfaces present themselves, bcz i know well that out of sight is out of memory, and if a "project pile" is BEHIND or UNDER another one, i will simply never get to it
v. so i just -- via hackney freecycle -- got some nice pine shelves for all my singles (only three shelves, and what i have and don't is very random, some bcz i like it, a lot bcz i never yet listened)... and spoent a lot of yesterday just ramming them on no longer in any order, and my first thought was (as always) CULL with a view to COMMENTARY
vi. because i am probably past mathematical middle age and this archive ain' goin nowhere if it's not into writing somewhere
vii. so yes anyway i has to go into werk now to use the printer as the "new" one i just got via hackney frrecycle needs a special adapter to work on my computer bah pah
*(for years the poster child of this was a note i used ONCE at college, to blutak onto my door, which sed "back in a minute" -- i was certainly still coming across this in the mid-90s, in piles of not-sure-how-to-sort "archive material", and not throwing it away on the principle that it was "funnier" to keep it) (this post may be the realisation of this principle!) (tho i haven't seen the note recently and MAY ACTUALLY HAVE CHUCKED IT in the great 12 bin-bags purge of 97) (plz to note how few = "great")
