I think the Prittle Brook one is SOUTHEND (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prittle_Brook) tho it certainly sounds like something out of Tolkein!

vi) I think this is an C18th agricultural improver and google gets me to Turnip Townshend. I think I half-remember this from geography lessons at school - growing turnips puts something back into the soil.
