wiki-illiam #106: q3

Going out, what (numerically), where, suggests:

i: a clutch of curlew's eggs?
ii: a beverage "Faithful to the original"?
iii: an encounter on 13 September 1882?
iv: an annual event initiated by James Stanley?
v: an earlier connection with the Morning Post?

And coming in:
vi: is there a geographical misplacement from South Uist?
vii: sounds like a resident of Puddleby-on-the Marsh?
viii: is an apparent refuge for the bald?
ix: follows Calamity?
x: finishes on time?

Puddleby-in-the-Marsh is the residence of Dr Dolittle and krew: viz Dab Dab the duck, Gub Gub the pig and so on.

aargh where's South Uist? I am sure I read something about it this year.

Flummoxed on these in general.

south uist is in the hebrides -- or er the orkneys -- or earthsea...

That makes me think of South/North Utsire (Norwegian shipping forecast areas)?

???

"There has been considerable controversy over hedgehogs on South Uist."

Googling James Stanley has revealed nothing at all of relevance to the question :( But it has informed me that several James Stanleys held the awesome title of BARON STRANGE.

Is ii) a cocktail with a number in it? e.g. French 75?

These make me think of tides! That is not very helpful of me.

Haw, I got impatient by this one and checked out Another Forum... and even then it took me minutes to get what the answers were about. Tiny hint: "going out" and "coming in" are indeed relevant, though not in the sense of births/deaths.

Is it a golfing reference? I decided it might be yesterday and it made me much happier about giving up on the entire question.

Since next set is up, I guess I can affirm that yes, this thing is about golf holes (nos 1-9 of their respective courses on the way out, 10-18 on the way in) named after stuff. Seems pretty damn impossible for anyone who isn't intimately familiar with the great courses, except our host got one anyway: Doolittle is apparently hole 12 (http://www.manorhousegolf.co.uk/EXCLUSIVE_HOTELS/the_club/the_course/hole_by_hole_guide.aspx) at the Manor House Golf Club in Wiltshire:

One of the most visually stunning Par 5’s you are likely to see. The hole doglegs across a valley, with heavy rough, the River Bybrook, the lake and bunkers to negotiate before you reach the green.

I don't think I even understand half these questions, let alone have the slightest clue as to the answer. Here is a picture of a clutch of curlew eggs, though!

Or not! I can't even do that.
