COMPLETED:
i: ok it’s OBERON not TITANIA (she sleeps at the bank), rubiginosa = eglantine, moschata = musk-rose, it’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM ([livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee confirmed his guess)
ii: LEONTES in A WINTER’S TALE (semi-guessed [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee, confirmed [livejournal.com profile] marnameow)
iii: is ALONSO (Ferdinand's dad) in THE TEMPEST (semi-guessed [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee, known by [Bad username or site: kerry polka @ livejournal.com])
iv: the KING OF NAVARRE in LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST (googled by [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee, attempting to confirm [livejournal.com profile] belecrivain's guess)
v: DUNCAN in MACBETH ([livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee confirmed his guess)
vi: at the start of the eponymous KING JOHN, the KING OF FRANCE urges John to stand down in favour of ARTHUR (known by [livejournal.com profile] jeff and [Bad username or site: kerry polka @ livejournal.com])
vii: LOUIS XI of France in HENRY VI part 3 (semi-guessed [livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee, known by [Bad username or site: kerry polka @ livejournal.com])
viii: the KING OF FRANCE agrees after Agincourt to let his daughter CATHERINE OF VALOIS marry HENRY V in the eponymous play (tentatively known by [livejournal.com profile] alextiefling) (to be fair henry and catherine rather woo one another, w/o really knowning one another’s languages)
ix: CLAUDIUS poisons a cup meant for the eponymous HAMLET ([livejournal.com profile] dubdobdee confirmed his guess)
x: ANTIOCHUS in PERICLES PRINCE OF TYRE (known by [Bad username or site: kerry polka @ livejournal.com])

p sure this is monarchs in shakespeare -- answers below entirely from tired noodle

i: this might the fairyqueen in midsummer night wotsit, who "knows a bank whereon the wild thymes grows, where nodding violets" etc
ii: is a winter's tale (or possibly cymbeline)
iii: is this the tempest?
v: is duncan in macbeth
vii: edward and margaret are striding around all over whichever of henry vi pt etc is the one this happens in (my guess is part 3)
viii: doesn't lear hand over cordelia to goneril and regan?
in ix: the nephew is hamlet, so the king is i think claudius?

Def. A Winter's Tale, and it would be Leontes.

iv - I think Measure for Measure is the one about the four friends who take a vow not to get married? (also I don't think Lear gives up Cordelia since she's married to the King of France when she's defeated. Titus Andronicus for that one?)

damn it, mixed up MfM and LLL.

Isn't 8 the King of France in Henry V?

vi. is also the king of France - and the king of England who received the ambassador is King John, in the lesser known play of same name

iii. Alonso (Ferdinand's father in the Tempest, they were sailing to Tunis)
vi. King of France (Charles I think? It's King John anyway)
vii. Louis XI of France, THE SPIDER KING (Henry VI part 3)
x. Antiochus (Pericles)

All of the top of my head, GO ME!

Also I feel iv. could apply to any of the four, but as the category is clearly "monarchs in Shakespeare" then sure let's go with Ferdinand.
