"Ellen Vannin" is "Isle of Man" in Manx. But I think that's slightly misleading. Here's why:

Kola (no ice) suggests Murmansk, an ice-free port on the Kola Peninsula.

2. Is an Edward Lear quote: "On the coast of Coromandel/ where the early pumpkins blow/ something something something something/ Lived the Yonghy Bonghy Bo."

So I think this is 'places containing "man"'.

Dayak = Borneo tribe (I admit I googled to check this) so could it be the man of the forest - the orangutan?

Kalimantan?

[identity profile] jeff-worrell.livejournal.com 2017-01-07 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
viii. = Tasmania?

ix. Is this a typo for Uluru or a typo for Uhura off Star Trek? (or not a typo at all!)

[identity profile] katstevens.livejournal.com 2017-01-07 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah - I googled and the answer is Not a Typo, so I shall leave that unspoken for now :)

It is indeed Kilimanjaro - Uhuru Peak is one of its highest bits :)

vi - region + significant shore + letters MAN maybe Normandy... haven't googled St Norbert tho.

Yes, 6 June, well done St Nobby.

[identity profile] marnameow.livejournal.com 2017-01-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)

Iv = Fermanagh maybe. Red hand and all.

v. is SALAMANCA in Spain, home of the Royal Scots College, which resumed its original purpose - the formation of young Scots for the priesthood - only last year.

Am disappointed that none of these answers are Welsh Rockers MAN...

vii) Google time: Via Devana is a long-ass Roman Road from Colchester to Chester - it crosses another Roman Road Ermine Street at Godmanchester (in Cambridgeshire).

iii) Spättburgunder is Pinot Noir (I should have got that!). So probably somewhere in the Black Forest or the Rhine?

MANNHEIM!
