Writer's Block: You Don't Know Me

[Error: unknown template qotd]i have nevah got on with TRISTRAM SHANDY even tho it is dr quack's favourite book and she has her favourite page enlarged on her wall as a big FRAMED PICTURE

i like the idea of it enormously but somehow the thing itself i never get anywhere with

the only music i actively dislike and don't get in the history of everything is u2*: all my other hates i have massive exception clauses to (*ALSO WAGNER who is anyway the same thing as u2, i just realised)

film: my dislikes are terribly obvious and i've banged on endlessly abt em (kubrick; malick)

theory: i am down with everyone here except BAUDRILLARD who just totally gets my goat -- perhaps i read the wrong stuff or got the wrong end of the stick; i dislike jameson also but to be honest that's a lot more to do with his ultra-lame epigones (which is maybe a mite unfair i mean derrida JEEBS LOUEEBES discipline-wise but i still wubs him totes so go figure)

lolz @ your 'sudden' realization.

You also dislike Ulysses don't you? Actually there are plenty of things I can think of that I think you would like but you actually dislike.

It is one of your more likeable qualities, if I may say so..

Have trouble getting beyond the first 50 pages of Tristram Shandy myself, so this is not a surprise (though I wouldn't say it's bad, and I think I would quite like Sterne as an occasional unintentional troll on ilX or [livejournal.com profile] poptimists).

I am surprised!

Is it the marbled page?

no it's chapters 39 and 40, i think -- with the little wiggly diagrams that map the "straight" line of the story so far

[livejournal.com profile] byebyepride and I were taught by a dude who was a world-renowned expert (or so he said) on Tristram Shandy, and took particular joy in the marbled page as an act of anti-printer mischief: he had a large collection of different editions and showed us all the various approaches taken.

(I have never got beyond ch 1 I think)
