I'm pretty sure these are all football matches, possibly even all FA Cup finals.

i is cardiff losing to sheffield united
ii is probably Luton town losing to Nottingham Forest (which i'm pretty sure wasn't an fa cup final, so maybe it's not luton)
v could well be Sunderland (black cats) but i dont know how Leeds United are game birds!!!
viii could be wolverhampton and Leicester (wolves and foxes)

iii) hooting > mavis' song

1934–35 Sheffield Wednesday (owls) 4–2 West Bromwich Albion (throstle (song thrush) on badge)

iv) did canines emulate Godwinson at the second attempt?

Godwinson = Harold, Battle of Stamford Bridge = Chelsea's ground, but not necessarily Chelsea playing. Luckily for us, the final was only held there three times.

1921–22 Huddersfield Town 1–0 Preston North End Stamford Bridge

Huddersfield are nicknamed The Terriers.

ii) 1958–59 Nottingham Forest 2–1 Luton Town (Hatters) (as mentioned by Steve)

v) 1972–73 Sunderland (Black cats) 1–0 Leeds United (Peacocks - out of season refers to "Virtually obsolete" note on wikipedia page - named after local pub) (again as mentioned by Steve)

vii) flock shaken

Crystal Palace as venue rather than team. I'm presuming this 6-0 defeat for Derby County (Rams) and their sheep emblem.

1902–03 Bury 6–0 Derby County Crystal Palace

ix) magpies / citrus meal

1950–51 Newcastle United (magpies) 2–0 Blackpool (tangerines)
