i: the word "pie" is only apparently traceable back to 1657, so this "orchestra pie" must involve some dodgy dutch translation -- the word "coffin" was more common in this sense, much earlier!
ii: the crust of a pie was not routinely made to be eaten until the 18th century,really -- the pastry was basically the packaging, and fed at meal's end to handy dogs, bears, cockatrices
